The latest update

Ok so I just got a call from my dr, here is the news:
My MRI for my brain and migraines is on Monday.
I failed the glucose/diabetes test and so could possibly have diabetes and have a 4 hr. glucose test on Thursday this week.
I am anemic and now have to take iron pills or chewables.

So I got 3 sets of bad news in one call.
I am kinda frustrated.

  1. Okay, not that I am a doctor, but I hope I can help you calm down a little. I failed BOTH of my initial glucose tests, as did many of my girlfriends. Then, when we went back to do the 4-hour one, we were ALL fine. The initial test is not super reliable.

I am sure she told you that you drink the drink, wait one hour, draw blood... then wait one hour... draw blood again... one more hour... draw blood again. Lots of pokes for one morning! Yuck!

I hope someone can go with you. I did it by myself but I wasn't going through it with migraines. I was DRAINED (literally) when it was over and went home to sleep.

Don't borrow trouble worrying about gestational diabetes until you get the results back. I hope it comes out okay.

I will pray for the pain to subside between now and your appt on Monday... that's a LONG way away!

    Iron pills... anemia... sorry.

Hang in there. Anissa will be here before you know it and the longer she stays in the cooker, the healthier she'll be when she finally arrives.

You can do it! Love you!

  2. Oh, and I know you know you can't eat or drink ANYTHING the 24 hours before the test. Even a tiny bit of creamer in your coffee can throw off the results. Avoid high-sugar food on Wednesday before the test, too. Just to make sure it's accurate!

P.S. I like that I no longer have to put in a code to leave a comment. Nice.

  3. Ok, last comment... I'm pretty sure it's fasting for TWELVE hours before the test, not 24!

    DUH!

  4. Good luck on all your tests. If you have ANY questions about gestational diabetes, you can ask me. I had it. It wasn't bad at all except I had to have my blood drawn every OB appt and I had insulin shots twice a day. Lexi was perfectly healthy and was a 6 pounder and not huge like they scare you into thinking. Best part about having diabetes is being induced 2 weeks early, so I never got to the uncomfortable stage.
